What About AI for Christian Authors?

Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is the new big thing in technology. It's everywhere. But how should we approach it? Is it a friend or a foe? Should we fear it, embrace it, or reject it?

And, especially, what should our attitude be towards it as Christians? Is AI another tool in the hand of the antichrist to extend control over the world? Or can it help us to proclaim the Gospel of salvation and point people to Jesus?

I'm a Christian author. My first language is not English, but Hungarian. Can AI help me serve people better?

Here is my take.

My picture of using AI is like having a horse.

Is a horse helpful? It depends.

If I can use it well, it can be very helpful. If not, it's just a wild animal running around and causing trouble.

First af all, a horse must be broken. It must be brought under our control. When we have that, we can use it.

A horse can go or run much faster than a man. This is an advantage. But a man can think better. He knows the direction. If I can direct the horse wherever I want, I can get many things done quicker and more efficiently. And that's where AI can help a Christian author.

Look at the picture at the top of this article. How much time and effort does it take to make something like that with the futuristic head and the techno lights around it? Hours? Days? With AI, it takes only a prompt and a few minutes of waiting, and, voilá, there it is.

Of course, writing a Christian book or article is not so qiuck and simple. It's not like "Prompt: Write me a Christian book about the cross of Jesus." No, it's more than that.

Writing still requires prayer. We must know and understand our topic. And we are still responsible for the results.

But once we learn how to use the writing capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs), we can produce quality work more quickly and efficiently.

And I'm not saying this because it makes my work easier. In fact, it doesn't. I can write, so handling AI means learning new skills.

What I can say is that using AI, I can write more, and the feedback I receive is very positive.

My experience tells me this: AI can write very well. But it shouldn't replace us. We must use it as an assistant.

We must guide it like a good horse. It's not the master. The author must remain in the saddle.

If we learn to harness and use it wisely, AI can became a useful tool. We can use it to do great work for us. It can help us to produce blessed and useful writing that honors our wonderful Lord.
